September 5 – Dead Flies

Ecclesiastes 10:1a –Dead flies putrefy the perfumer’s ointment, and cause it to give off a foul odor…

Have you ever listened to a performer and discovered something about them that was really annoying? Have you ever wanted to purchase something but there was one thing about it that ruined the look for you? Have you ever thought that you would enjoy something if it were not for that one glaring negative that prevents you from doing so? These are all DEAD FLIES. They ruin an otherwise pleasant encounter. And they are all too prevalent.

This has happened many times to me in church leadership. I would love to have a person serving in a certain capacity but they have a dead fly that disqualifies them. Do we have dead flies in the church that keep people from coming back? Do we have dead flies in our relationships that keep them from being healthy? Do we have dead flies in our personality that sabotage friendships? Don’t pass them off as “weaknesses” or the “just the way I am” mentality. A dead fly could be the very thing that is keeping you from growing, progressing, moving forward, reaching the next level, you know what I mean. Let’s get rid of the dead flies.
