September 28 – Full Armor

Ephesians 6:11-13Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

The day we are living in requires nothing less than full armor. Paul compares our spiritual lives to that of military combat. We are not wrestling against normal human foes. Our warfare is of a spiritual nature in a spiritual dimension and requires spiritual attire. In verses 14 through 18 Paul tells us how we are to be clothed:

Belt of Truth
Breastplate of Righteousness
Feet Fitted with a Readiness to Share the Gospel Shield of Faith
Helmet of Salvation
Sword of the Spirit
Prayer

If we are not properly fitted we don’t stand a chance against an enemy who wants to devour us. Successful warfare belongs to those in full armor. If we will be diligent to be fully clothed in all the armor God has provided for us, we will be able to stand our ground and victory will be assured. There is a companion verse in today’s Old Testament reading that is perfect for our devotion: Isaiah 54:17 – “‘No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me’ says the Lord
