October 5 – Stand Strong

Colossians 1:21-23And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight— 23if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.

Today’s entire New Testament reading is about the stability and growth of believers. Paul’s goal is to present every person complete in Christ that he feels responsible for (1:28). This is what it’s about for a leader. This is why I am doing these devotions every day…maybe it will help someone grow… maybe it will help someone stand strong in their faith another day…maybe it will inspire someone to dig a little deeper…maybe.

The three verses above provide a great snapshot of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We were once alienated and enemies in our minds because of our evil behavior. The word alienated means “non-participant.” But through His death we are reconciled (“restored”) and stand in a position (secured for us by Christ) of being holy, blameless (without fault), and free from accusation. That’s a pretty good standing. But in order for us to maintain that status we must do three things: 1) continue in the faith; 2) be grounded and steadfast; and 3) be unmoved. Christ has accomplished the work for us. We receive it by grace and mercy. But then we are responsible to maintain that work in us. We must choose to dig in our heels and remain in Him. Don’t be moved today. Hold your ground and remain steadfast. There is too much at stake. The price was very costly.

Maintain your position and hold firm. Be settled. Participate today in the faith. It’s the greatest life this dude of heaven.
