October 3 – Pray About It

Philippians 4:6,7 –Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Our text today starts out with some great advice: don’t be anxious about anything…Anything…ANYTHING! How can you and I possibly avoid becoming anxious about things that happen in life? Apply the next statement: “but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God…” PRAY ABOUT IT! Rather than let it consume you, worry you, give you an ulcer, cause you sleepless nights — PRAY! And do it with thanksgiving! That means to add a component of faith to your praying. Once you’ve delivered it to God, begin to thank Him for answering your prayer. When you do that you can expect an amazing result found in verse 7: “and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” You will possess a peace that cannot be explained. The word “guard” in verse 7 means to be a watcher in advance; to mount guard as a sentinel (post spies at the gates). In other words, God will post peace as a guard to your heart and mind to keep out all anxiety.

So the next time you’re tempted to worry, PRAY ABOUT IT!
