October 28 – Remember

Titus 3:3-5For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.

It’s important to remember where we came from. We haven’t always been the way we are now, at least some of us. I’m sure we could add to the Apostle Paul’s list. Are you able to even identify with that person? Hopefully you have experienced such a wonderful transformation that it’s hard to believe some of the things that you used to do. And it’s all because of the kindness and love of God that appeared to us. Oh the marvelous love of God that melted our hateful hardened hearts! The power of love is truly amazing!

Let’s remember we were loved and accepted before we ever did anything. That’s where verse 5 comes in. He saved us because of His mercy and through His work. We were unacceptable, but He accepted us. We were unlovely, but He loved us. He did the work, not us.

While we strive to work for Him and do everything we know we’re supposed to do, we must keep in mind that we are not saved because of those things. It’s mercy, it’s grace, and it’s love…always has been… always will be. Take time to remember today. It feels so good.
