Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
This is one of the great passages in the Old Testament with a great promise to God’s people. It contains several things that you need to be reminded of today:
1. God is thinking of you – that’s right! God has you in His mind and has not forgotten you!
2. His thoughts toward you are thoughts of peace – He is not thinking evil of you. He is thinking about your peace.
3. His plans for you are good plans. He has a future for you and He wants you to be hopeful.
Many Christians refer to this verse but if you asked them what comes after verse 11 they couldn’t tell you. Our text today is great but there is more after that: “ Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” (verses 12 and 13)
Having a hard time finding God? He’s not absent nor is He hiding…it’s just we are not praying. When we pray He will listen (verse 12) and when we put all of our heart into it, we will find Him. With these three verses combined the future looks bright!
