1 John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our
sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
I have used this scripture for years to assure people of their forgiven status after they have prayed to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. It is simple and straightforward. I will say to individuals, “This simply means that if we do our part, God will do His part.” If we will confess, admit, be forthcoming, and acknowledge our sins, God will respond. His nature, that of being faithful, will cause Him to deliver on a promise. He will forgive us. He is also just. A tremendous price has been paid to set us free. Our repentance also initiates a cleansing action by the Holy Spirit. Sin is removed and our conscience is bathed in righteousness.
Today let’s confess our sins to God and experience a release of guilt and receive from Him a new lease on life. Show others this scripture and let them know Jesus did the hard part. Now, it’s our move.
