May 24 – Hey Stranger

Psalm 119:19 – I am a stranger in the earth; Do not hide Your commandments from me.”

The people of God throughout scripture are known to be pilgrims, wanderers, nomads; people on a journey from one place to another. They are called aliens and strangers, not calling the earth their home.

This verse reiterates ‭‭that point as David declares, “I am a stranger in the earth.” He was one who understood full well the position of “traveler“ as we went from hiding place to hiding place in order to escape the wrath of Saul.

The Christian perspective of eternity and heaven emphasizes our temporary earthly status. We have a promise of an afterlife and understand that our presence here on earth is merely preparing us for a celestial home.

This mindset changes the way we view the here and now. Suffering, tears, sickness, weakness, will all one day give way to a much greater and fuller existence, free from the tests and trials that buffet us now.

Be encouraged my friend. Make heaven your aim and live this life with your future in mind. Jesus paid a heavy price to give you passage into a place that will immerse your earthly being into one clothed in immortality. We’re strangers here. Things should seem a little foreign tho us. Your citizenship belongs to another country. Don’t get too caught up with things on this planet. Where you’re headed will far outshine anything you could possible imagine.
