May 17th – Now I See

John 9:25b – One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.

This chapter begins with Jesus seeing a blind man and His disciples asking if the blind man sinned or the parents sinned because he had been born blind. This thinking was prevalent in the biblical times. Jesus responded that neither had sinned but rather this was an opportunity that the works of God would be manifested. The miracles takes place and the blind man’s eyes are opened. This obviously created quite a stir and eventually the man is brought to the Pharisees for questioning. The issue? Jesus preformed the miracle on the sabbath and the Pharisees disregard Him because of it. The Pharisees demand that the man who can now see give glory to God and not this “sinner” (can you imagine calling Jesus a “sinner?”) And here comes the man’s iconic response: “Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.” BOOM!

That’s it! That’s all that needs to be known. “Once I was blind…now I see!” That’s as simple as it gets. Don’t let it get complicated. You and I simply need to remember that once we were this way, then we met Jesus, and this is how He changed me…NOW I SEE!
