Psalm 55:22 – “Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.”
All of us have borne burdens of various kinds throughout our lives. Burdens can wear you down and wear you out. They come from many different sources. They can come from family members, the job, finances, health issues, etc. The question is not where did the burden come from, but rather, where is the burden presently resting? You and I are not built too well to continually carry burdens. We are not strong enough or emotionally fortified to bear under them. David invites us to do something with them. The word “cast” in this verse means to throw or hurl upon. I don’t care how you do it; just get it off of you. “Well, how do you do that?” Good question. You will never be able to release it unless you pray. Some of us have carried a burden for so long it’s become our little “baby.” We might be concerned about what happens to it. Only through prayer will you be able to trust the One who can actually do something with your burden. Look at the promises given: He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to me moved. Wow! Now that’s worth unloading that burden.
