June 8 – Harvest Time

Psalm 126:5,6 –Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy. He who continually goes forth weeping, bearing seed for sowing, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.”

Verse 5 is the condensed version of verse 6. According to Jesus’ marvelous parable of the sower and the seed (Luke 8:4-15), the seed is the word of God. Those who continually go forth and carry their seed with them and do so weeping will be fruitful. The more painful the process, the sweeter the reward. Sowing in tears requires a passion and a burden. Why the tears? Understanding the mission and the condition of those we are trying to reach should impact us.
If you leave weeping you will surely come back rejoicing. The surety of the reward is clinched with the word “doubtless.” There is no doubt your weeping will be turned into rejoicing (read verses 1 and 2 of today’s psalm) and that you will return with a harvest.
Pray until a burden comes. Go forth carrying the word of God. Return joyful. The harvest is promised to you.
