June 15 – Unity

Psalm 133:1-3 – Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, Running down on the beard, The beard of Aaron, Running down on the edge of his garments. It is like the dew of Hermon, Descending upon the mountains of Zion; For there the Lord commanded the blessing— Life forevermore.”

The scriptures place a high priority on unity. It is a necessary ingredient if we are going to walk in the blessing of the Lord. Unity is compared to the oil used to anoint Aaron and also like the dew of Hermon, a symbol of first morning refreshing. We can conclude then that unity provides an atmosphere for the anointing and for spiritual refreshing.‭‭

In order for unity to exist there must be humility. Placing others’ interests ahead of your own is a sure sign of unity and is a core teaching in Christianity. James 3:16 –For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.

Unity is so important that Jesus prayed for His followers to walk in it as one of His last prayers on earth (John 17). Unity appears to be a key prerequisite to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost in Acts chapter 2 (Acts 1:14; 2:1).

Do your part to walk in unity with those around you. May the blessing of this psalm rest upon you today.
