PRAYER AND FASTING
Mark 9:29 – “So He said to them, ‘This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.’”
A boy was in severe need of deliverance. The dad had brought him to Jesus’ disciples to see if they might be able to cure him. They could not. Jesus did the much-needed work and afterward the disciples curiously asked Jesus why they were unable to cast the demon out of the boy. The above verse is Jesus’ response.
There are some things that require a different level of application than normal. This is especially true in the spiritual realm. “This kind” suggests a group or category that is separate from others and set apart. You cannot deal with that group as you would any other. Success will only come when you and I do something we’ve not done before to access the power necessary to dispossess the works of darkness. That something according to Jesus is prayer and fasting.
These are dark days my friends. Church as usual will only yield the present results we’ve been seeing. We must go deeper. We must push aside the plates and give our internal organs a rest. And while we’re doing so we need to get ready for added power, added authority, and victory over the enemy in areas where he has held the upper hand. Prayer and fasting…there’s nothing like it to turbo charge your spiritual life.
