Feb 16th- Raise The Roof

Mark 2:4“And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying.”

Jesus was in a house — and it was packed. No room for anyone else. His popularity had grown so much that chapter 1 verse 45 tells us He could no longer just show up in populated areas but had to stay in the desert. Still, they came to Him from everywhere.

So when people found out He was in a house they filled it. Four guys had a paralyzed friend that they wanted to get to Jesus, but they couldn’t get inside. Not to be denied they got to the rooftop and uncovered a portion of it and let him down on a mat in the presence of Jesus. Verse 5 opens with an interesting statement, “When Jesus saw their faith…”  We have no account that they said anything. But their actions said everything…and their actions screamed out to Jesus one word, “Faith!”

If you don’t know the story Jesus ends up healing the man but it’s great reading what happens before the paralyzed man gets up and walks out of the house. I would strongly encourage you to read it. But when we think of faith we think about what comes out of our mouths. We speak the word of faith. We declare those things that are not as though they were. But these men, as our father Abraham, did something that indicated they had great faith. And I wonder…are we doing anything that by our actions is telling God that we have faith? If not, it’s time to raise the roof!
