JESUS PAID IT ALL
Psalm 32:1,2,5 – “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. 2 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit… 5 I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,’ and You forgave the iniquity of my sin.”
There are three types of offenses against God and all of them are different from each other. They are mentioned in our text above. They are: sin, iniquity, and transgression. Sin is any offense against God and as such is the broad umbrella including any and all sin. Iniquity is perversity and moral evil. Iniquity is generational sin. It is sin passed down to you from generation to generation. Ever wonder why some sins seem to plague certain families? It’s all because of iniquity. Transgression is rebellion against God. It is a stubborn refusal to obey God and bend oneself to the will of God and the Word of God.
Verse 5 gives us instruction as to how to handle each one. You have to acknowledge your sin to God. This means to recognize it and declare it. This usually happens when we are initially saved. We come to recognize we are lost without Him and then we declare our sin and ask forgiveness. Iniquity must not remain hidden. We must uncover it and repent of it. Throughout scripture you will find instances where individuals repented for the sins of their fathers. This is iniquity. Transgression must be confessed to the Lord. That’s the last thing a truly rebellious person wants to do. Transgression will make a person very hard and impenitent. A rebellious soul that has been broken and humbled will confess.
The good news is that Christ’s sacrifice paid the price for all three. Isaiah 53 verses 5, 11, and 12 state: “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed… 11 He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, for He shall bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong, because He poured out His soul unto death, and He was numbered with the transgressors, and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.”
How true the old song that says, “Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe; sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.” PRAISE GOD!!!
