Day 23-Life Changing

Psalm 19:14“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.”

This prayer is normally prayed as a benediction. I have heard it many times over the years and have prayed it many times myself. I love its simplicity and directness. However, it is typically isolated from the rest of the Psalm. If our words and meditations are to be acceptable in God’s sight, they will be affected by our relationship to the the Word of God and its impact on our lives. This is seen in verses 7 through 11. The scriptures are ascribed six different terms or phrases with six different effects:

7

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;

The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;

The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;

The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;

The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;

The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.

10

More to be desired are they than gold,

Yea, than much fine gold;

Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

11

Moreover by them Your servant is warned,

And in keeping them there is great reward.

The word of God is perfect, sure, right, pure, clean and true. Two results of engaging with Scripture are listed in verse 11: 1) warning; 2) reward.

Your diligence in reading the One Year Bible has tremendous benefits. Please read these verse over again to glean the effects God’s word is having on you and keep up the discipline of daily reading. Your words, your thoughts, your life will be forever changed.
