Matthew 13:24,25 – “Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; 25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way.”
Jesus called His disciples to stay alert and stay awake. In doing so you will be ready and prepared spiritually. On the contrary, bad things happen when you’re asleep spiritually. In the Garden Jesus chastised His disciples for falling asleep and not being able to stay awake. He then said to them, “The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.”
Our text reveals the tragedy of those asleep in the kingdom. The enemy does his best work in the darkness and “while men slept.”
I am so thankful to be surrounded by “watchmen,” men and women who carry a prophetic mantle and are very keen to Satan’s devices
(2 Corinthians 2:11). Whenever Satan gets a foothold in the kingdom of God, someone fell asleep on the job.
A side note for leaders: we need to exercise wisdom when there is something not right in the ministries we serve. Sometimes we tend to want to fix everything and Jesus’ fix of this particular problem was don’t try to fix it lest you cause further disruption in the lives of the wheat. There will come a day when the angels will fix it.
