Day 19-Blessed and Highly Responsible

Genesis 39:2-4 “And the Lord was with Joseph, so he became a successful man…So Joseph found favor…and all that he (Potiphar) owned he put in his charge.”

Have you ever asked someone how they were doing and they responded, “Blessed and highly favored.” I’ve heard that many times. But that’s only part of the reality. The fact is when God blesses you there is responsibility that comes along with the territory. Potiphar leaves everything in the hands of Joseph and God blessed the Egyptian’s house because of Joseph (v.5). But Potiphar’s wife has the hots for Joseph and tries several times (v.10) to seduce him. Joseph refuses her advances. His response in verse 8 is critical to this principle: “Behold, with me here, my master does not concern himself with anything in the house, and he has put all that he owns in my charge.” When Joseph was faced with temptation he referred to his responsibility as a reason to refuse to sin. I have known people who have claimed to be blessed and highly favored who forgot this principle in the midst of temptation. Next time you are tempted to cash it in for a moment of pleasure, remember this, you are blessed and highly responsible.
