Job 23:10-12 “But He knows the way that I take; when He has tested me I shall come forth as gold.
11 My foot has held fast to His steps;
I have kept His way and not turned aside.
12 I have not departed from the commandment of His lips;
I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.”
I am continually impressed with Job. He is going through unimaginable heartache and pain at the loss of his family and everything he once owned. On top of this his health has deteriorated to the worst Satan could put on him. His words contain complaint about his grief but throughout the book there is sprinkled in passages such as these, which are filled with faith. There are several lessons to be taken from this servant of God that will help us when we are faced with some level of difficulty in our lives.
Job’s statement “But He knows the way I take,” remind us that God knows exactly where we are. Some times we think God has forgotten us. Not at all—He knows the way you take. He knows your very steps.
Job viewed his situation as a spiritual test. Could it be that you’re being tested? A test confirms that you know the material. Job’s conviction was that he would pass with flying colors.
In the middle of being tested maintain the following spiritual practices listed by Job:
“My foot has held fast to His steps.”
“I have kept His way and not turned aside.”“I have not departed from the commandment of His lips.”
“I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.” My wife’s late Aunt June Becker used to quote this portion of scripture regularly. I remember her saying time and again, “If you don’t have time for the word of God you don’t have time to eat!”
I want to thank you for including these daily readings in your spiritual diet. They are essential to maintaining a healthy heart and thought life and will sustain you through some of the most difficult tests you may face. Cling to the word of God. Read it daily. Hide it in your heart that you may not sin against the Lord. Walk in it by faith. Let it form you and shape you. You will come forth as gold!
