August 22 – Painfully True

‭‭Job‬ ‭6‬:‭25‬ ‭- “How forceful are right words!”

Words have the power to create. The worlds came into existence because “God said…and it was so.” Our words have a similar impact on our world. You can speak words that can calm a situation. You can also speak words that stir things up.
Job says that the right words can be forceful (or painful). Right words are the words that are considered honest and true. These are not popular words nor are they typically “feel good” words. They probably make you mad when you hear them but deep inside you know they are the right words.

This is why it is important that those speaking right words do it in a way that is acceptable. The object of right words is to help and not to make the speaker feel good (“I’m right”) at the expense of the people being told the truth.

I believe there are two situations when right words need to be spoken. 1) When an individual wants to grow. It is the truth that brings freedom (John 8:32). This freedom will dislodge someone from that which stunts growth and restricts moving forward. There are times when a person cannot see what is holding them back. A truth could be the key to their success. When you don’t speak the truth you are protecting your relationship but you are risking a giant step forward for the person who wants to grow. 2) When there is a wrong that needs to be corrected. There will be times when your presence at a right time with the right words will bring justice to a situation. History reveals that when people had the guts to speak up when something was wrong it changed people, people groups, even nations.

We serve a God of truth. Truth needs to be spoken in the earth and you are a vessel of truth. Remember, according to our verse today, right words are forceful. That being said, initially they may not be appreciated. But don’t shrink back from the change they can bring.
