Luke 10:2 – “Then He said to them, ‘The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.’”
THE HARVEST TRULY IS GREAT! This is a constant that has not changed since the times of Jesus. The problem is the church. We have not been consumed with reaching the harvest. The church becomes focused on internals and keeping the machine running. This is typical of any organization that loses its vision and gets into maintenance mode. As a result, the laborers are few compared to the work of reaping the harvest.
Another problem is with leadership. Harvesters are in the church but are chained to the seats. We need leaders who will release and SEND harvesters to the fields. And I don’t mean just to go win people to the Lord and then come back to the church. I mean SEND them to plant churches and become missionaries, be it local, regional or in a foreign land.
The answer seems relatively simple, but one I have been honing in upon lately: prayer. We don’t have to pray for the harvest, it’s ripe. We need to pray to the Lord that He would send laborers into the harvest. Harvesters—that’s the need of the hour. Prayer—that’s the need of the church. May we seek him and may God grant an army of harvesters so that the harvest may not be lost.
