Psalm 84:5,6 – “Blessed is the man whose strength is in You,
Whose heart is set on pilgrimage.
6 As they pass through the Valley of Baca,
They make it a spring;
The rain also covers it with pools.”
The center of this passage is in verse 6: “As they pass through the Valley of Baca, They make it a spring…” The word Baca in the Hebrew means “Weeping.” So the verse would read, “As they pass through the Valley of Weeping, They make it a spring…” All of us will pass through the Valley of Weeping at some point in our lives. There is nothing I can teach you to avoid this experience. However, there are several things you can do while you’re in it.
Pay close attention to the first words after “As they pass through the Valley of Baca.” Ready for it? Here goes. “They make it a spring.” It doesn’t say, “God makes it a spring.” The scripture says, “They make it a spring.” What are you making it? What are you making your Valley of Weeping? You have the power to change your Valley of Weeping into a spring. Some people make their valley a pity party, a complaining convention, a gossip gathering, a “woe is me” meeting, a “why me?” whining caucus, a “my valley is bigger than your valley” conclave, a “let’s sit here and make everyone miserable” assembly. You can make your Valley of Weeping whatever you want to make it. But you can make it a spring. How do you do that? First, you have to change your view of the Valley. You have to see it as an opportunity and not an obstacle. When you change your attitude in the Valley, you will change your direction and you will also change what you do in the Valley.
Don’t lose your praise in the valley. Don’t lose your heart in the valley. Don’t lose your ministry in the valley. Make it a spring; make it a place of song and ministry. Make it a place of refreshing for others.
