Hebrews 11:20, 21 – “By faith Isaac invoked blessings for the future on Jacob and Esau. By faith Jacob, when dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, ‘bowing in worship over the top of his staff.’ By faith Joseph, at the end of his life, made mention of the exodus of the Israelites and gave instructions about his burial.”
Isaac, Jacob and Joseph spoke into the future. Isaac and Jacob did so in regards to their children and Joseph spoke about the deliverance of Israel from Egyptian slavery and about his burial.
This act of prophetic declaration is not common in our day. I believe there are several reasons for it:
1. It’s not taught.
2. We live for the present
3. We don’t think generationally
4. We don’t realize we have the power to speak into the future
You and I need to be more proactive about tomorrow and not just “take it as it comes.” The book of James mentions that our tongue is like the rudder of a ship. It steers the direction of our lives.
Take charge, mate! Speak a word over your children’s future, over your grandchildren. May the Lord bring to pass every good thing you’ve declared for generations to come!
