November 11 – Receiving The Promise

Hebrews 10:36 – “For you have need of endurance, so that after you have
done the will of God, you may receive the promise.”

2 Peter chapter 1 verse 4 tells us that God has given us very great and extremely valuable promises. Our text refers to a single promise by God. All promises require two essential ingredients if they are going to be obtained. This will make the difference between possessing the promises of God and not possessing the promises of God.
Essential Ingredient #1 – Doing The Will of God.
Notice when the promise is received: “after you have done the will of God.” Obedience is highly prized and rewarded by heaven. Throughout scripture a huge emphasis is placed upon the obedience of God’s people in order to walk under the blessing of the Lord. Our concern should not be getting the promise but doing the will of God. Why do you think doing the will of God is a prerequisite to receiving the promise(s) of God?

Essential Ingredient #2 – Endurance.
Once we have done the will of God and are doing the will of God we must be patient. We are not in it for the promises; we are in it for the long haul. It’s not about getting our prize and then going our own way. Endurance suggests that there will be some pressure and resistance along the way. There might be opposition and also a struggle. Our faith may be tested and our resolve may be challenged. But if we will endure it will be worth the journey.

I want to encourage you to be strong and hang in there. Your endurance will pay off and there will be great peace knowing you are doing the will of God.
