September 11 – A Leader’s Lesson

Isaiah 8:11 –The Lord has given me a strong warning not to think like
everyone else does….

The Lord’s instructions to Isaiah in today’s devotional is good advice to leaders. We must not allow ourselves to think like the majority. In fact one of the distinguishing characteristics of a leader is that they don’t think like everyone else. This is what sets them apart as a leader. Here are a few nuggets from today’s lesson for leaders:

SPEAK DIFFERENTLY – v.12a – “Do not say, ‘A conspiracy,’ concerning all that this people call a conspiracy…” What you say as a leader matters.

DON’T FEAR– V.12b – “…Nor be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.” A leader must possess a calm in troubled times.

FEAR THE LORD – v.13 – “The Lord of hosts, Him you shall hallow; Let Him be your fear, and let Him be your dread.” A leader must possess the fear of the Lord since Proverbs says it’s the beginning of both wisdom and knowledge; two attributes a leader cannot be without.

WAIT ON THE LORD – v.17a – “And I will wait on the Lord…” This is where your strength and direction comes from.

FOLLOW GOD’S INSTRUCTIONS – v.20 – “To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” God’s ways are always best.
