Nehemiah 13:1,2 – “On that day they read from the Book of Moses in the hearing of the people, and in it was found written that no Ammonite or Moabite should ever come into the assembly of God, because they had not met the children of Israel with bread and water, but hired Balaam against them to curse them. However, our God turned the curse into a blessing.”
There are instances in scripture where decisions made long ago are enforceable in the present day. Generations may have come and gone and leaders may have forgotten the decision, the covenant, etc., however God, whose existence spans generations, considers the action as still binding. There may be adversity experienced because of ancestral decisions or sin. It is important to remember that our decisions and actions today can affect generations to come.
In our Old Testament passage today the Moabites and Ammonites were unkind to the Israelites approximately 1,000 years prior to this. They were not ever to be allowed into the community of Israel a full millennium later! But their unkindness was not just because they refused Israel provision, they also took it a step further by hiring Balaam to call down curses on them. But it didn’t work because “God turned the curse into a blessing.” The incredible ability of God to overturn a decision of man is remarkable. How many times has God turned a negative into a positive; a setback into a step forward; a demotion into a promotion; a disappointment into an appointment; a loss into a gain?
What are you facing right now that needs to turn around? What are you dealing with that seems to have “curse” written all over it that God can overturn? I sense a shifting in your season coming. Don’t be discouraged. What it looks like now is not what it is going to look like. Put your trust in Him who can turn your curse into a blessing.
