JUNE 24 – DO YOU SEE WHAT I SEE?

2 Kings 6:15-17 – “ And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, ‘Alas, my master! What shall we do?’ 16So he answered, ‘Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.’ 17And Elisha prayed, and said, ‘Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.’ Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”

There are three great lessons in this passage in today’s Old Testament One Year Bible reading that will encourage you:

1. Do not fear.  When you are facing adversity, opposition, and overwhelming odds, you can feel intimidated.  One of the first knee-jerk reactions is to fear.  You cannot see a positive outcome.  Your mind begins to play out the scenarios and none of them have a good ending.  Don’t allow yourself to succumb to the fear.  There are two things you need to do to combat the fear.

2. Realize heaven’s involvement.  Elisha’s announcement to his servant was, “…those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”  It doesn’t matter the opposition—what matters is, “who is with you?”  That changes the equation dramatically.  Romans 8:31 says, “If God is for us, who can be against us?”  With God on your side it is always lopsided and unfair in your favor!

3. Pray that God would open your eyes.  The servant saw only in the natural.  Oh, what we might see if our eyes were truly open!  There is an array of a heavenly host moving in the affairs of mankind, especially of those who are believers in the Lord Jesus Christ.  We are not alone.  We are not forgotten.  Pray today that God would open your eyes to see what others do not see.  You may not physically see chariots of fire, but you will be aware that heaven is on your side.
