Acts 13:44 – “On the next Sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God.”
Acts 14:4 – “But the multitude of the city was divided: part sided with the Jews, and part with the apostles.”
Today’s New Testament One Year Bible reading highlights the responses of two cities to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Acts 13:44 speaks of Antioch in Pisidia where the Gentiles were eager to receive the message of the Kingdom. Acts 14:4 speaks of Iconium where the city was divided. The message of the kingdom will do that. We must declare truth whether the people receive or not. However, we should also hold on to the fact that cities can be transformed by the gospel. City transformation is possible! And while the factions will cry and make their voices heard, the church can launch a prayer effort that will reduce the “noise” and bring about a harmony that is much needed not only in the church, but also in our cities. May we see the day when “almost the whole city comes TOGETHER to hear the word of God!”
