June 20 – True Friends

Proverbs 17:17 – “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for
adversity.”

We all have relationships with different people at different levels. To keep it simple I’ve categorized them into 5 c’s.

1. Casual – These are people you simply know by their first name. You may run into them in the grocery store, the salon, the gym, etc. This is the most shallow of relationships, if you can even call it that.

2. Colleague – These are individuals you work with in some capacity. But there is nothing beyond that. You may see them every day. You may even know the names of their children. That’s about it.

3. Companion – These are people you socialize with. You like to be around companions. They are people you are fond of and enjoy doing things with.

4. Comrade – Combine a colleague and a companion and you get a comrade. You share activities with these activities with these individuals. There are tasks that you do together, but you also enjoy getting together. It’s both work and pleasure.

5. Clan – These are people you go to bat for and who go to bat for you. People in the clan look out for each other. They are family. They are the ones spoken of in our text today. They love at all times…the good and the bad. When adversity comes they still answer their cell phones.

Throughout your lifetime you are fortunate if you find a half of dozen people who fit in this category. If you find one. God has truly blessed you. Cherish that type of friend. As a matter of fact, let them know today how much they mean to you
