June 1 – Take Time To Linger

John 20:11 – But Mary stood outside by the tomb weeping, and as she wept she stooped down and looked into the tomb.”

The world we live in is in “hurry up” mode. Everything is geared to serve the customers more quickly than ever before. We have been trained to “move on” to the next thing. In doing so, I’m afraid we may miss some of the more important things in life.

John chapter 20 opens up with Mary Magdalene arriving at the time “while it was still dark.” Maybe she couldn’t sleep and was up all night. Who could blame her? The events that had taken place were startling, confusing and life changing. She got there before anyone else. And to her surprise she found the stone covering the mouth of the tomb rolled away and as she looked inside it was empty. Her first response was that someone had taken the Lord Jesus away. She reported her findings to the disciples and Peter and John take off for the tomb. When they arrive they find it just as Mary had said. Then verse 10 tells us that they went home. Now comes our text. Mary lingered…she stayed when everyone else went home. What happens next is pivotal in the resurrection story. She took a second look in the tomb and saw two angels. Then she turned around and saw Jesus.

Don’t miss eternal moments because you’re too busy to stay a little longer. Take time to linger and you may be surprised at what you will find. It is possible that it might change your life.
