May 23 – Wash Me!

John 13:3,4,8 – “Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.””

There are some great lessons for us in today’s New Testament reading. It is the account of the Last Supper. Jesus has one more opportunity, His last one one Earth, to impart final thoughts to His followers. I have only highlighted two.

First, humility flows from a sense of security and knowing who you are. There were certain things Jesus knew in verse 3 which allowed Hum to model humility before His disciples. Pride will keep you from such a lowly state, and will also rob you of the blessing that only comes through a humble spirit.

Second, the powerful words of Jesus need to ring loud and clear to the body of Christ today, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.” We must be cleansed, washed thoroughly. The word “part” means a share or allotment. I think if the dividing of the land to the tribes of Israel when I read this. We are missing out on part of our inheritance when we are not washed. Oh, dear friend, let Him wash you thoroughly today! Let His word cleanse you deeply and may we walk in humility and blessing that only flows from a deep relationship with Him!
