Ruth 2:1,2 – “There was a relative of Naomi’s husband, a man of great wealth, of the family of Elimelech. His name was Boaz. So Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “Please let me go to the field, and glean heads of grain after him in whose sight I may find favor.”
Ruth’s initiative positioned her for greatness. She could have waited for something to happen but instead she asked her mother-in-law, Ruth, for permission to go into the fields to glean grain. The end of chapter 1 says that they arrived in Bethlehem at the beginning of the barely harvest. Ruth was astute to take advantage of an opportunity.
Ruth was a Moabite woman. Her situation was less than pleasant. She was a foreigner int he land and her husband had passed away. She could have lost heart about her unfortunate circumstances and succumbed to a bad attitude. Instead she remained positive and stepped out of her comfort zone. She may have been forced to out of need. God is able to allow certain circumstances to confront us to get us to a place we would not come to naturally. Had Ruth been negative and complaining and resistant to moving forward, she would have missed an opportunity in connecting with Boaz. The long-term effect was that she would become a generational grandmother to King David and would also secure a place in the scripture in the lineage of Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:5).
Be encouraged today. Your situation may be the key to your greatness. It is important that you look for the opportunity that may be hidden beneath the problem. At all costs do not lose heart and keep a great attitude in the midst of your difficulty. People have missed it at this juncture. Don’t be numbered among them. Know that God has a plan and a future for you. Look with faith into your situation and praise God for working out His will in your life. You’ll be amazed at what the outcome will be!
