Joshua 7:2-4 “And the Lord said to Gideon, ‘The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’

3Now therefore, proclaim in the hearing of the people, saying, ‘Whoever is fearful and afraid, let him turn and depart at once from Mount Gilead.’ And twenty-two thousand of the people returned, and ten thousand remained. 4But the Lord said to Gideon, ‘The people are still too many; bring them down to the water, and I will test them for you there. Then it will be, that of whom I say to you, ‘This one shall go with you,’ the same shall go with you; and of whomever I say to you, ‘This one shall not go with you,’ the same shall not go.’”

Gideon has been instructed by God to deliver the children of Israel out of the hands of the Midianites.  Although vastly outnumbered, Gideon is about to find out that God doesn’t need a huge army for a victory.  Man’s help is not needed when God is about to move supernaturally.  God gets the number of men down to 300.  That’s all that is needed to do what God wants to do.  The odds are stacked against Gideon tremendously.  God will make sure that He receives the glory and not Israel.

Life is a journey.  It is important who is traveling with us and who isn’t.  In verse 4 God tells Gideon that when He says, “This one shall go with you,” then the same will go with him.  And when God says, “This one shall not go with you,” the same shall not go.  We need to realize that certain people should “go with us” on our journey and certain people “should not go with us” on our journey.  Pay close attention to this principle.  It can help you succeed in life or hinder you from succeeding.  God knows the people who should be your traveling partners in life’s journey.  The choices you make as to who will and who will not go with you will be some of the most important decisions you make in life.  Trust God to speak to you about your journey.  Make sure He is Lord over every relationship you have.  And pray continually, “God, show me who to connect with and who not to connect with.”  This prayer alone will save you from setbacks in your life as well as catapult you forward into the blessing of the Lord.
