Judges 4:21,22 – “Then Jael, Heber’s wife, took a tent peg and took a hammer in her hand, and went softly to him and drove the peg into his temple, and it went down into the ground; for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died. 22And then, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said to him, ‘Come, I will show you the man whom you seek.’ And when he went into her tent, there lay Sisera, dead with the peg in is temple.”
Judges 5:7 – “Village life ceased, it ceased in Israel, until I, Deborah, arose, arose a mother in Israel.”
The victory of Israel over Jabin, king of Canaan, in today’s Old Testament One Year Bible reading, was because of the courage and action of two women, Jael and Deborah. Their faith and leadership came at a critical time in Israel’s history. Chapter 4 verse 3 tells us that Jabin had “mightily oppressed the children of Israel” (KJV) for twenty years. After the defeat of Jabin, the land of Israel had rest for 40 years. Thank God two women stepped up to the plate.
Women, you have much to offer the kingdom of God. Its advance will largely be due to the prayers, faith, and courageous acts of modern day Jaels and Deborahs. Will you play a pivotal role? Will you step forward? Will you lead and perpetuate Christ’s kingdom on earth? THE KINGDOM NEEDS YOU!
