Psalm 91:1 – “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.’”
There are some special Psalms but Psalm 91 has to be among the top. It contains amazing promises that are really worth you taking the time to read all 16 verses. Many Christians held on to some of the promises during the COVID-19 lockdowns.
But the promises, I believe, hinge upon a position. This position is the foundation for those promises and it is in our text: “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High…”
There is debate over who wrote Psalm 91 because the author is unnamed. While David is the most well-known writer of the Psalms, and there are those who contend he wrote this one, there are others who believe that Moses wrote Psalm 91. I am in this camp. There are different reasons that I don’t have the time or space to list, but I will mention one and it is related to the theme of dwelling in the secret place. Psalm 90, which is undisputedly ascribed to Moses, begins with, “Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.” Then we have the opening of Psalm 91 mentioned above. Psalm 91 verse 9 says, “Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place…” Beyond this verse are some amazing promises given to those who make the Lord their Dwelling Place…their Secret Place.
In Matthew chapter 6 Jesus tells us that if we will do certain things in the secret place that our Heavenly Father will reward us openly. Find your Secret Place. It’s a place where you hide away with the Lord. Create this habit in your life to the point where it becomes your Dwelling Place. When you do, amazing things will begin to take place in your life.
