Deuteronomy 28:63 – “And it shall be, that just as the Lord rejoiced over you to do you good and multiply you, so the Lord will rejoice over you to destroy you and bring you to nothing; and you shall be plucked from off the land which you go to possess.”
Moses, in his closing remarks to Israel, is contrasting the life that lives under blessing and the life that lives under curses. This verse reveals the heart of God for us. He rejoices over us to do us good. He wants to bless us and multiply us. This is His desire.
While I choose to live in the positive and think about God’s desire to bless me, I also need to know there is another side. If I choose not to obey and live according to God’s commands, there are consequences. As a matter of fact, in Deuteronomy chapter 28 there are fourteen verses containing blessing and fifty-four verses containing curses. Present day preaching is incredibly lopsided on blessing. We live in a day without warning. Where is the true biblical prophetic voice making us aware of danger?
To live under blessing is a choice. May you and I make the right decisions and choose to live according to God’s word. If we do, God will command the blessing to come upon us (verse 8) and tremendous blessing will overtake us (verse 2).
