Deuteronomy 7:1,2 – “When the Lord your God brings you into the land which you go to possess, and has cast out many nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than you, 2 and when the Lord your God delivers them over to you, you shall conquer them and utterly destroy them…”
Notice the wording in verses 1 and 2 – “When the Lord your God brings you into the land…When the Lord your God gives (your enemies) over to you, and you defeat them…” With God it’s already done. As far as He’s concerned your already “there” and your enemies are already defeated!
But between here and “there” we have some instructions we need to pay attention to.
“Therefore you shall keep the commandment…” (v.11)
“Then it shall come to pass, because you listen to these judgments, and keep and do them, that the Lord your God will keep with you the covenant and the mercy which He swore to your fathers.” (v.12)
“Every commandment which I command you today you must be careful to observe…” (8:1)
“Therefore you shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him.” (8:6)
“Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today.” (8:11)
It all boils down to obeying the word of the Lord. These commentaries are meant to be brief and are theme oriented. But you will be missing so much if you do not take the time to read today’s Old Testament One Year Bible devotional. There are so many promises that are secured for us under the New Covenant that will really bless you and speak to you. Please do yourself a favor and read them, underline them, pray them and claim them. And remember above it all that His blessings come upon you for one reason: it’s because He loves you! (7:8)
