March 16th- Getting Into Position

Luke 2:4“And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David).” (KJV)

Today’s New Testament devotional of course is the story of the journey of the holy family to Bethlehem and the birth of Jesus Christ.  There are many lessons to be learned in this passage however one of the most profound is that God will use whatever He has to in order to get us where we need to be.  Jesus had to be born in Bethlehem to fulfill the word of the Lord through the prophets.  Joseph and Mary lived in Nazareth approximately 80 miles away.  God used the political taxing of the Roman empire to move the parents into proper positions and alignment with the word of God.  Jerusalem was approximately 5 miles from Bethlehem.  God made a promise to an old man that he would not pass away until he had seen the Christ child.  God used the law of Moses to bring the child to Jerusalem, not just to fulfill the law, but also to fulfill a promise.

Dear friends, don’t you worry.  God can use anything to get you into proper position.  His word must have preeminence in the earth in your life and mine.  He can use the workplace, the economy, unforeseen circumstances, trouble, agitation, or whatever He needs to that we might get to the place that something supernatural can happen.  So before you complain, think about how uncomfortable it must have been for Mary to be full term and have to travel rough terrain for a week to get to the right place.  God’s timing demands it.  However difficult the journey may be, it’s part of proper alignment.  You are where you are for a reason.  Don’t miss the eternally significant purpose of being in the right place at the right time.
